Hari Museum Nasional 2022 jatuh pada Rabi (12/10/2021). Sejarah Hari Museum Nasional berawal dari Musyawarah Museum se-Indonesia (MMI) yang pertama di Yogyakarta pada tanggal 12-14 Oktober 1962 dan menghasilkan 10 resolusi penting bagi permuseuman.
Selanjutnya, penetapan tanggal hari museum berdasarkan pertemuan MMI di kota Malang, Jawa Timur pada tanggal 26-28 Mei 2015. Pertemuan tersebut dihadiri 250 pengelola Museum di Indonesia. Pertemuan itu juga membahas isu-isu dan paradigma baru dalam dunia permuseuman untuk kemajuan museum.
